Woody Guthrie Wood Guthrie Folk Festival
"For six years in a row, folk music fans and artists alike have gathered in Okemah, Oklahoma, to celebrate the life and work of an American legend. The Woody Guthrie Folk Festival (dubbed "Woody Fest" by attendees) takes place annually, coinciding with Guthrie's birthday, in the small rural town where he grew up.   The festival is a labor of love presented by the Woody Guthrie Coalition in an effort to advance Guthrie's musical legacy."

Last time I went I was mostly free, except for a concert at the beginning of the festival.   That concert was used to fund the rest of the festival.
Jimmy LaFave... Jimmy LaFave
"I'm no longer so naive about the record business that I don't understand why someone this fabulous doesn't sell millions of albums while mainstream mediocrities do.   It still cheeses me off, though.   Amid the morass of popular music, Jimmy LaFave stands out like a pint of Guinness in a bar full of Miller Lites."

Doublnotspyz
This band is not longer together, but if you can get this CD it will be worth your effort!

The DoublnotSpyz are an acoustic music 5-piece band featuring the songwriting talents of Larry Spears, John Williams and Tom Skinner.   They are "Making Music to Save the World," from Pop 40 and commercial radio.

"...It was during this time that a then unknown, Garth Brooks, (a.k.a. the Anti-Hank), was watching Tom and his brothers play at a Stillwater bar named "Willie's Saloon".    They decided to put together a country band, that for some unknown reason, Garth decided to call "Sante Fe" and they took this act to Nashville.... Tom was less than thrilled with the music scene in Nashville or the idea of raising his then, one year old son, Jeremy, in "music city", (or in my opinion being musically linked to a guy that has become known as the "Anti-Hank") so he and wife, Jeri, moved back to Oklahoma where they could raise their son in a "fit" environment.

The Farm Couple The Farm Couple
A delightful review of The Farm Couple can be found at Rockzilla.

For my money, Monica Taylor has the sexiest voice I have ever heard.   I used to think it as was Stevie Nicks of Fleetwood Mac, but give me Monica any time.

Any CD she or the Farm Couple put out, I am automatically getting out my check book.
The Wiggins Sister second album, Minnesota The Wiggins Sister
Well they are not Red Dirt, but I love their CD Minnesota.   When I first got it, I must have played it 25 or 30 times... straight.

Read my review on their web site or at Amazon.com

Two sisters with great harmony, singer-songwriter music.
Greg Jacobs Greg Jacobs
"I decided a while ago that I wasn't going to be a 'songwriter' like they think of them in Nashville.   Even though I did at one time really want that - I went to Nashville looking for it - I finally got to the point where I just said I am going to play my songs and if someone likes them, fine.   If they don't, well I can't worry about that."
Greg Jacobs

When Greg Jacobs is not singing he is a history teacher a the Checotah, Oklahoma High School.
Bob Childers Bob Childers
"For years people have talked about legendary "Texas" songwriters like Eric Taylor and Willis Alan Ramsey.   Well the folks in Oklahoma have a legend of their own and he is none other than Bob Childers.    Never heard of him?   You probably have and just don't know it.
From Binky Records web site

"Childers' unique bend of country, folk and roots-rock rings with a clear authenticity.   His laid back casualness and traveled, weathered, voice are well suited to his songs of love, loss, regret, promise, betrayal, fun and just hanging out."
Greg Johnson, No Depression
